While Patty is away at Grove Park Inn with her “Suppa Club” group resting, eating and drinking (and not necessarily in that order), we back here at the office have been holding steady despite a few complicating factors. The first was that today was when the office complex had a worker install new door handles and outside lamplights that have the energy-efficient bulbs. That is a wonderful improvement, of course, but to install the door handles, the gentleman had to keep the entrance door open, thus letting in the stifling, oppressive heat and humidity we have been having this entire week. It felt like a sauna any time you went up or down the stairs, because basically it was a sauna.
Then there were the absences. Patty was out, of course, and so has been Gloria, who is due back to work from her two-week vacation in Maine on Monday. But Allison was feeling sick and stayed home too, while Matt left around lunchtime to head to Baltimore for the weekend to watch the Orioles play the Chicago White Sox. Next out the door at 3:30 were Kristi and Kate, who headed for Alamance County to attend the first in a series of free concerts being held at Old Fields, a residential community blending the old and the new that is also an MMI client. Performing at the concert today, which starts at 5 p.m., is the local favorite the Mason Lovette band. If you have been counting, that means six of our staff is out at least early today. Even by our summertime standards, this is an unusual situation.
Also leaving today, but for a different reason, was our intern Kelly. We wish her all the best in her future endeavors, even though she acknowledged she did not know exactly what her plans are. Wait, correct that – she did know that she was going to change the color of her hair from blonde to brown, so she has made at least one decision already.
In other news that you might have missed this week, Ryal reveals in his blog today that he and our former colleague Nicole Bucalo became engaged last weekend. Yes, he popped the question to her when they were visiting Baltimore, and she happily accepted. Wait a minute – Matt is in Baltimore this weekend. Do you think he might … no, it will not happen with him. Then again, we have been wrong in the past, so who knows?
Patty will be back in this regular spot Monday, unless she has too much fun at Grove Park Inn, which could very well happen too. Whatever the case, we hope to see you back here as well, and have a pleasant and safe weekend.
