Today With Patty – Nov. 16, 2006

by Patty

I am on my way to Raleigh-Durham International Airport to catch a plane for Phoenix, where it is not thundering or raining or messy. I just called the office to tell them I am on the road and the animals are lined up two by two.

This morning I went to the monthly meeting of the Association for Corporate Growth Research Triangle Park Chapter. The speaker was Dr. Andrew Brod, director of the Office of Business and Economic Research at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He was really dissing Thomas Friedman and his bestselling book on globalization in the early 21st century called The World is Flat. I think Friedman’s book was brilliant, and I did not agree with all of Dr. Brod’s presentation.

This afternoon, I attended the Women Against MS luncheon (as opposed to Men for MS), and I ended up having to leave early to go to the airport, but I did have a chance to see Lt. Gov. Beverly Perdue welcome everyone and deliver some gracious remarks. Linda Wertheimer, senior national correspondent for National Public Radio was the speaker, and there were a lot of ticked-off people there because she was really knocking the Bush administration and Republicans in general. In my opinion, it was not appropriate for her to discuss that at this function.

While I am gone, the office will blog for me, and I will be in sunny and dry Phoenix, seeing clients and enjoying the warmth.
