Today Without Patty – Oct. 5, 2006

by Patty

You read right – today is a day without our leader here at MMI. She and her husband John are on vacation in Arkansas with Erika and Dave Mangrum of Iatria Spa and Health Center. I, Wesley Hyatt, the MMI office manager, am writing in her place. I managed to talk with Patty this morning about her trip, and it’s not been going as well as hoped. It is taking her all day to get just to Little Rock. At Raleigh-Durham International Airport her flight was delayed to the point where she will be getting into Little Rock at 2:30 p.m. Central rather than 9:30 a.m. as she had hoped. To make matters worse, originally her connecting flight was from Atlanta, but the rebooked one forced her to go into Dallas instead, then hopscotch back to Little Rock. “That’s even more indignity,” she told me. To top it off, the quartet will have to drive two and a half hours to reach their final destination, Turtle Cove Spa in Turtle Cove, Arkansas. Let’s hope the spa will give them all some much needed stress relief from today’s sojourn.

Before John left, he found enough time to install new faucets in the downstairs kitchen and bathroom. So once again, all the employees here extend a big “Thank you!” to John for getting them fixed.

The rest of us at the office have been productive while Patty and John are away, mind you. I’ve been revising and updating client information with the assistance of our great intern, GraceMarie Thomas of North Carolina State University. Kate has been stuck in the fax room sending out literally dozens of items to clients (“I just love to fax,” she joked), while Michelle was excited to announce that she spelled “prestigious” right the first time she typed it into a document. Those of us who know Michelle’s, shall we say, challenges with spelling will realize what a big deal that is.

Elizabeth and Allison had time to stop their routines to be touched by a note from Whitney Wilkerson, creative director of Stop Studios, who appreciated their participation last Thursday at the banquet and silent auction to raise funds for the House of Hope, which assists girls in need from ages 12-17. Elizabeth had even more good news – she won a free Dr. Pepper: by participating in the Million Nugget Giveaway at Chick-Fil-A. Her enthusiasm dampened somewhat when she learned after she registered online in order to claim the prize that it would take six to eight weeks to deliver it to her. Whoever heard of someone who delivers a free can of Dr. Pepper?! Oh, well. At least she won something.

As for poor Ryal, it just has not been his day. From getting his stomach upset for a while thanks to eating some of the considerable leftover cake here to spilling a batch of Orville Redenbacher’s popcorn, the guy just cannot get a break. Say a little prayer for him.

Patty is not coming home until Sunday, so I’ll give you another update on her adventures tomorrow. Till then, take care.
