Today Without Patty: Gloria’s Back

by Patty

First, a Patty update for everyone: She has e-mailed Kipp and Katie that she and John made it safely to the Galapagos Islands, which we all knew she would anyway. That leads into a brief Katie update as well – she came by the office yesterday because her computer still has not arrived yet (it was supposed to come her way last night, and we hope it did). Wonder if any other students at Peace College have been so deprived of a computer in their first few weeks at school?

Return From the Lone Star State

In happier news, our own Gloria has returned from Texas, where her parents just celebrated their 60th (yes, 60th!) wedding anniversary with friends and family. She flew three different flights each way, from Raleigh-Durham International Airport to Houston to Atlanta to Midland and then back the same route, and somehow managed to live on peanuts, pretzels and airline coffee throughout her sojourn. She has been gone a week but is now back home, and we already have put her to work with several projects, because we know that is what she wants, right, Gloria?

Weather Watch

Gloria has returned to the Triangle just in time for a weekend where there currently is a tropical storm watch. A low pressure system off the southeast coast could be forming in the next day or two into what would be known as Gabrielle if its winds reach enough strength. Now, while nobody likes tropical storms, the rain they bring would be welcome here, given how parched everything has been. If anything does hit us though, it would not happen until the weekend.

Right now, it remains another hot and sunny day, with a high of 95 degrees expected. We are all hoping that this September will not resemble August and break previous record highs, but so far, it just remains unseasonably warm. If a tropical storm does form, though, that should bring some temporary relief.

Hmmm … wonder how the weather is in the Galapagos Islands?
