Patty is busy yet again and out of the office all day. Meanwhile MMI Associates employees have been looking out the window every ten minutes waiting for snow. It never came but we all remember back when snow days were better than holidays…

I grew up in a tiny town, Independence, V.A. It snowed AT LEAST 20 times each winter. My grandfather was a farmer and gave my brothers and I a pony one year for Christmas. So the first snow we had after we got ‘Rocky’ my dad tied a sled to him and he pulled my brothers and I around on a sled the entire day and I still remember that as my best snow day ever. Well, until I got to college and had no-school snow day parties.

The snowstorm in Jan. 2000 put 20 inches on the ground. We missed school for at least 5 DAYS. My buddies and I skated down Highway 55 in our shoes for about 5 miles. The entire Triangle shut down. That’s the kind of storm I’m lookin’ for.

During a close JV basketball game, I took a hard elbow to the eye from a scrappy defender. It became clear immediately that I was going to have quite a shiner. I was mortified, black eyes are not ok when you’re in tenth grade no matter how big of a tomboy you are. A few hours later, it started snowing like crazy, finally dumping over a foot of snow in little Mebane, N.C. They didn’t clear the roads for a week and we were out of school for two – by then my black eye was completely gone. It worked out quite nicely!

Building snowmen with my brother and sister and sledding with the neighborhood kids are my favorite memories. My Mom always had us wear two pairs of socks and then put our feet in plastic zip lock bags before we put our snow boots on so our socks wouldn’t get wet.

When I was in elementary school, there was a snow storm that shut school down for a few weeks. I remember getting out some baking pans and sliding down my neighbor’s driveway, across the street, down my driveway, down the backyard and making sure I fell off before I hit the creek. There was a contest to see how close you could get without falling in.
Ryal Curtis and Kate Davis are from Michigan and Colorado respectively, where every day is a snow day. Kate Davis heard it was minus four back home in Denver last night, so things could be a lot colder. We hear it is supposed to snow on Saturday too – the snowball fight is postponed until then.

MMI Associates was contracted to handle media relations and to organize various efforts to open the communication lines between the construction entities on the project and motorists. The firm developed a strategic public relations campaign to ensure that local motorists and those passing through would be aware of the most up-to-date traffic patterns.
