Wake Technical Community College Helps Define National Standards

RALEIGH, N.C. — Dr. Stephen Scott, president of Wake Technical Community College, has announced that Rob Kimball, head of the college’s Mathematics & Physics department, has assisted in the development of the revised national mathematics standards for two-year colleges. The American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges (AMATYC) released “Beyond Crossroads: Implementing Mathematics Standards in the First Two Years of College” today in Washington, D.C. As the AMATYC Southeast Vice President, Kimball served on the Project Planning Team.

The standards are a call to action for two-year college mathematics faculty to strengthen student learning, problem solving and critical-thinking skills. “Beyond Crossroads” provides guidance for preparing students for the workplace or for advanced education. “We are proud of the important role Rob Kimball has played in developing ‘Beyond Crossroads,’” said Dr. Scott. “We are pleased to have a member of our faculty influencing mathematics guidelines and strengthening the role of the community college in preparing the workforce.”
