We Raised Canes

by Allison

You know those moments that stick with you for the rest of your life? The ones that don’t just make for good pictures, but that really make you look back and think…wow. I’m not going to pretend that I’ve been a dedicated Hurricanes fan at any point in my life, but thanks to LaDonna, her crazy perfect parents, and those incredible moments at last night’s game against the Sabres, I will most certainly be one from now on. Here’s why:

1) Caniacs are CRAZY. We pulled into the packed parking lot with LaDonna and the car behind us honking a terrible version of a rally song. It was black and red everywhere we looked, and I knew I was in the right place when I saw the first tailgate of fried chicken and beer.

2) Caniacs know how to GET DOWN. On our way in to the RBC Center we were distracted by the bling of a band (they may as well have worn disco balls for jackets) and shamelessly stopped in to shake a little leg.

3) Caniacs like to EAT. Nachos. Sweet pecans and almonds. Pretzels. Need I say more?

4) Caniacs know what it means to have something to CELEBRATE. I’ve been a screaming fan at all kinds of events before, but these are the fans that don’t stop. We watched in awe as the Stanley Cup banner was lowered and the crowd went insane. I would be surprised if one person in the arena left without sore hands and a hoarse throat from all the clapping and screaming.

5) Canes PLAY HARD. Aside from the crazy fans, the food, and the beer, there was in fact a game going on…and it was a good one. We didn’t see blood, but one broken hockey stick and a few scuffles on the ice was plenty of entertainment for me. And we were SO CLOSE!

There’s nothing like a fun night in a screaming arena. We lost a flip-flop, found friends (and free beer), high-fived over menopause, laughed ‘til it hurt, and even graced the jumbotron with our dance moves.

Last night’s game was incredible, and you can bet that I’m ready to go again – so send those spare tickets my way! Thanks Scott, Star, and LaDonna!!! (And sorry Kenny.)

  1. Okay the most fun ever! You did however forget playing air guitar on your leg and seeing a local meteorologist suffer from bad hair!! Thanks for a wonderful night! Love you!
