If you have stuck to your diet and maintained your New Year’s resolution this long, I commend you. But, if you’re having trouble shedding those last few pounds, a recent study by researchers at Penn State may have found the key to success: whole grains.
All About Abs
In an article titled “More Benefits to Whole Grains”, the benefits of incorporating whole grains into your diet are revealed. In the 12-week Penn State study, participants who focused on a whole grain diet lost significantly more weight in the abdominal region than those who did not. They also had a reduced risk of chronic illnesses. Who knew that oatmeal and granola could be the key to a six-pack?
Brand Buzz
The buzz around whole grain diets is getting louder and louder as many well-known brands are beginning to see the marketing benefits of appealing to the massive amount of dieters in America. Brands are beginning to revamp popular foods like Pop-Tarts and frozen pizzas to cater to those who are choosing whole grain products —- a smart idea, as tens of millions of Americans are dieting at any given time. By tweaking their products, companies like Kellogg’s and Kashi are tapping into a demographic that’s been around for ages – and using America’s obsession with weight to their advantage.
The Skinny
So, how does a whole grain strawberry Pop-Tart sound? What about a seven whole grain, sesame and flax seed cheese pizza? I don’t know about you, but, to me, it seems like a small price to pay to get healthy – and back into your skinny jeans.
