Yahoo! Shine

Yahoo! has launched a new Web site called Shine aimed at one of the largest demographics in the world – females. 40 million women between the ages of 25 and 54 already come to Yahoo! each month. With this launch, Yahoo! hopes to cater to its female audience who may feel that the majority of the Web is catered to males.

Shine will feature daily original stories and content from larger publications that is geared towards topics that are the most interesting and important to women, ranging from fashion and beauty to work and money. Blogs are posted by both Shine staff and outside contributors and cover topics such as relationships, environmental issues and politics. Shine strives to create a site that informs women about issues that directly affect them and serves as a forum for active discussion.

I think Shine is a great – and addicting – new addition to Yahoo! With Shine, Yahoo! becomes one of the first worldwide sites to tap into this large demographic. By focusing on topics that directly effect women, Yahoo! has struck a chord with an estimated half of its audience – an audience that has begun to feel confidence in their growing influence on the technology industry.
